In order to fully remove the head liner, I would have to remove the sun roof, so that was the next mini project. I knew that with the sun roof off, it would be a good opportunity to strip the area around it and paint it. Here is a photo of the sun roof area, as well as a couple photos of the partially stripped interior floor pans.
A while back I bought an angle grinder from harbor freight. It was on sale for $10, and it rocks. Here's a link to it. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95578 It tears the paint and rust right off.
People can say what they want about harbor freight, but they offer a warranty and they offer good tools at a good price.
After stripping off the paint around the sun roof, I found quite a few rust holes. Lovely. I'll have to go back in with bondo and patch them up, but that can wait till warmer weather.
I painted the area around it with the rustoleum flat black. I've found that one of the keys to getting a good application with any paint, not just rustoleum, is to really clean the area with mineral spirits and a paper towel.
